balloon is for developers!

Linked Open Data (LOD) shows enormous potential in becoming the next big evolutionary step of the WWW. While the amount of available data keeps growing, uptake and usage does not. The potential remains largely untapped due to complex usage, initial hurdles and distributed datasets. Altough a plethora of tools to solve many semantic web problems theoretically exist, but many lack in online availability, maintenance, developer-friendliness or are difficult to setup. The vision of the balloon toolsuite is to establish web services for an easy Linked Open Data consumption targeting application developers instead of researchers. Therefore all balloon services will be public available and don't need to be installed locally.

Therefore, we will research and develop tools to allow Linked Open Data access, information retrieval, data mining and knowledge enhancement. The development just started and currently our activities focus Linked Open Data indexing (balloon Overflight), SPARQL query federation (balloon Fusion), fuzzy characteristics (balloon Commonalities) and RDF visualization (balloon Synopsis).

Linked Open Data? Keep calm and simplifiy!

Web APIs for the win!
